A few of my favorite things…

Filed under: The Fam — by corazondeswiss @ 8:47 pm

Christmas is one of my most favorite times of the year.  And I am very glad to be home with my family this year (even if I do have to work Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas.  And I already worked the day after Thanksgiving.  But I am not bitter.  Really.) I do miss having my own decorations, like my ornaments and my linens and candles, etc.  We have several of my favorites at home.
My Granny (my dad’s mom) painted ceramics as a hobby. And since she was a Christmas Eve baby, all things Christmas were some of her favorite things to decorate.  Since she is gone, there are no more pieces and fortunately she had plenty and I’ve gotten a few (and so has my sister.)  Obviously they are irreplaceable at this point and have lots of very sentimental value.  Anyway. I have a tree just like this one.  I can’t tell you how excited I was to get it.

Fully lighted and decorated tree

Santa (also painted by Granny)

And finally the Willow Tree Nativity (I have one of these as well and there is a new one of just the Holy Family that I love and will ask CP for someday)

What are your favorite decorations?

  1. My parents have a ceramic tree exactly like that one that my grandfather’s girlfriend painted. It is white with blue lights and I loved it as a child!

  2. I hear you about having to work around the holidays. This time around, I have to work everyday except Christmas and January 1. I am not enthused.

In my office hallway, there is a little tree like that, but it is slightly menacing in that all of the lights are red. I have to say that I am not a fan…

  3. I have a ceramic tree just like that! It was my grandmother’s tree and it always makes me feel like it really is Christmas when I see it!

  4. Fun decorations! I have a few ornaments from my childhood that different people made for me. I don’t put them up anymore because they don’t really go with the rest of the tree decorations, but I definitely still hang on to them.
