De-stressing

Filed under: All Things Wedding — by corazondeswiss @ 5:53 pm

Things are beginning to fall into place for our wedding. On Sunday at church the pastor gave me the all clear on our wedding date.  So now I can tell you that CP and I will be married on November 8th of this year.  The weather should be cooler here in Florida (as in NOT unbearably hot) and hurricane season is winding down by that point.
I went to my 3rd (!) bridal show of the month and actually won something in the drawings!  I won a facial at a local medical spa ($110 value). Which is awesome because I wanted to get one anyway.
I also booked our DJ for the reception at the sale price- $350/4 hours.  We’re actually paying $425 so we can have 5 hours.  I don’t want to feel rushed at the reception.  And I want to dance, dance, dance.
Okay.  Now I can start working on the fun stuff- flowers, dresses and invitations!!  Yay!!

Booked!

Filed under: All Things Wedding — by corazondeswiss @ 8:34 pm

I booked the reception site today.  CP and I haven’t picked out our menu (we are in discussion over this) but we have a place to have a party.
We have someone to marry us (as long as the pastor says it is okay).  We have someone to take the pictures.  We still don’t know if we can have the church.  We are operating as if we can have the church.  Everyone but the pastor has said so.  The organist is available and he is checking with the bell choir to see if they will play.
We don’t have a lot of stuff.  I am planning to book the DJ before the end of the month.  I also have to look at dresses and a florist.  And tuxes.  Invites…
Must stop before I become bridezilla.  Or an anti-bride.  I’m not sure which.

WW

Filed under: It's All About Me — by corazondeswiss @ 7:32 pm

With the you know what coming up, I had to go back on WW and get my butt back to the gym.  (I had taken a 3 week break over the holidays after I caught the cold of death and gotten so busy with the holidays. And our engagement.)
So last week I got back on the WW wagon, went back to the gym 5 mornings a week.  And Monday morning I stepped on the scale and I lost 3.2 lbs.  Yay me!!
In 3 short weeks I had forgotten how much better I sleep when I workout.  Although I’m sure CP is a little disappointed since I’m falling asleep on the phone every night.  He literally has to say my name and wake me so that I can hang the phone up and go back to sleep.  Poor guy.  But I’m sleeping through the night, no problem and feeling better.  Lets hope I can keep the weight loss going so I can get to where I’d like to be before the you know what!

I swore to myself I wasn’t going to post about the wedding all the time…

Filed under: All Things Wedding,Bitching — by corazondeswiss @ 8:49 pm

But today was a bad wedding day.  I spoke to the church secretary last week and told her my date and my backup date.  She told me the church was available on both days.  I asked her to have the pastor call me this week.  I emailed him myself on Monday and asked him to call me.  Fast forward to Wednesday (based on the secretary’s word I’ve been calling reception sites and photographers, etc.) I email the church secretary and check to see if I have the right email address for the pastor because I haven’t heard from him.
His reply:

You had the right e-mail address but sometimes it takes me a while to respond.  I checked the calendar but I am sorry to have to tell you that Nov. 8th is already booked by WELCA.  They will be in the church until at least 2:00pm.  This will not give you much time to decorate if it is an evening wedding.  Do you have any other dates that would work?
I will get you the wedding info packet from secretary and have it for you Sunday.  Then you can look it over and we can tentatively plan our first of three required sessions before you get married.
I hope this was the information that you were looking for.
Pastor

Umm no.  This is not the information I was looking for because the secretary told me I could have the church.  So I write back and ask if there is some reason we can’t decorate during the rehearsal (minus the flowers, etc.) Because Wednesday I booked the photographer for November 8th.  Because I was told I could get married on November 8th.  Of course I FREAK out.  And called my mother.  Who calls the church and speaks to the secretary.  She calls the lady in charge of WELCA.  She calls me and says there should be NO reason I can’t get married on the 8th.  I calm down and call the Pastor myself.  Speak to him and let him know that I really want this date and that there has to be someway to make it work.  He says he’ll talk to the WELCA lady.
Then I tell him that I want my HS friend to officiate.  He didn’t say no. He said that there was a policy about random people wanting to get married in the church and bringing in their own ministers…
I pointed out that I am not a random person, I’m a long time member.  My friend is not a random person who got ordained on the internet, he’s an ELCA ordained minister.  He said something about council as well…I don’t know.  My mom talked to someone on council who said that it would not be a problem.  I hope not.
He is supposed to contact my friend and speak to him.  Is it any wonder that I hardly ate my lunch today?

And I promise my next post will not be about the wedding.  Yes Alynda, there will be a website and when I get it done I’ll let you know.

The stress is becoming more manageable…

Filed under: All Things Wedding — by corazondeswiss @ 9:38 pm

I booked a photographer today.  I’ve a couple of reception sites picked out.  I’ll try and go this week/end to look at them.  I’m beginning to relax (a little).
My mom finally figured out how freaked I was about the whole thing and offered to make some calls today.  Thank God.  She told me last night “This is supposed to be fun, not stressful!”  Riiiiiight.  So far it’s been freaking me out- a lot of the venues I have called either won’t hold the number of people we are estimating, won’t allow us to serve alcohol, are already booked…
But today my mom talked to a hotel that is affordable, will do a room block for the guests, allow alcohol (we are thinking of having a set amount of beer and wine and the hotel has a lounge for those who don’t want the beer or wine).  I don’t want an open bar- I’ve been to some open bar receptions and I think people tend to get out of hand, and its a lot of money to spend on something that people don’t always finish before they get the next one because they’re not buying.
I heart the photographer.  She’s going to suit us perfectly and I think I’m going have her do our engagement photos as well.  That way she’ll meet us (as a couple) and get to know us before the wedding.  Meeting her got me excited about the wedding again.  The last few days I’ve been so worried about the reception site, that I haven’t been excited about it. I feel like a ginormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

Overwhelmed

Filed under: All Things Wedding — by corazondeswiss @ 7:10 pm

First let me thank everyone for the well wishes and congratulations.  I am still in shock and gazing at my ring whenever possible.  🙂
I’m discovering quickly how overwhelming getting engaged and married can be.
We’ve narrowed down the date, but now CP has said- “My mom’s trade show is that month.  I need to check with her on the dates.”  That’s something you should have told me LAST night BEFORE I called the person we’ve decided on for officiating.  And when I asked you about the dates.
I spoke to the church secretary today and got a long email with the wedding policy and reservation form.  Fortunately, the church is available on both dates we’ve got picked out and because we are planning out this far, we should be able to get what we want.
My friend from high school who is a pastor in the Lutheran church (but not called to the one I belong to here) has agreed to officiate, but we still have to clear it with the pastor here.  I should be able to talk to him this weekend and settle that up.
As soon as I have nailed down a date I will tell you all, but I don’t want to jinx it just yet.  And I’ll try not to bore you with details on here.
Now I’ve got to get to some things done other than think about my wedding!

It’s over…

Ringwatch 2007 that is.

BECAUSE HE PROPOSED!!

I am happy to announce that CP asked me to marry him on December 30th.  And of course I accepted.

We went to the Morikami Gardens in Delray Beach and walked around.  (CP tells everyone that I forget to tell the part about how he chose it because there were waterfalls…which is a kickback to our first date when we went for a walk in the park to see a fountain at night and it wasn’t flowing even though it had been when he checked earlier. I digress.  Back to my story.) So he suggested we sit down on a bench for a bit.  And we did.  We looked over the lake and we could hear a little boy yelling “Get back here!  Get back here!  If you know what’s good for you you’ll get back here!”
After it quieted down, CP said “You know it’d be good for me if you’d become my wife”, as he was getting down on one knee.  Of course I said yes and he put the most beautiful ring on my hand.

WE’RE ENGAGED!!!

Things I found out later:
He had called my parents’ on Wednesday and was a little surprised when I answered the phone, so he played it off.  And called on Friday after I had left to see him to ask for their blessing.  He had talked to his parents over Christmas.  He had been shopping for quite some time and hadn’t told a soul until just before he asked me!
When I talked to him on Friday from my hotel, he told me to sleep in Saturday morning and take my time getting there.  (My original plan was to get up early and get going.)  But he had to pick up my ring on Saturday morning!  And he wanted a haircut.

We’ve had the best time sharing our joy with our family and friends!
